Each election cycle, Mana Means is regularly hired to assist with communications for campaigns at all levels of government, from State Representative to City Council and U.S. Senate to Governor. In the election cycle of 2014, David Ige was a virtually unknown statewide candidate for Governor.

What We Did:

  • Employed grassroots efforts including Coffee Talks, Stew and Rices and organic social media engagement
  • Strategically placed a modest ad buy that was 1/20th of Ige’s competitor but efficiently reached our targeted demo of likely voters
  • Leveraged countless PR opportunities to offset a comparatively smaller ad budget
  • Researched and hammered home a consistent branding message about Ige, his background, his family, his education and his experience
  • Worked directly with Ige to highlight his strengths and contrast that with his opponent

Results:

In less than 10 months, we were able to rapidly grow David Ige's name recognition and awareness for his bid as the next leader of Hawaii. Ige would go on to a historic win, beating the incumbent Governor by 35 percent.
